The Story
Early Years
With an interest in music from a very young age, it didn't take long before Kyle Chamberlain began to take advantage of the opportunities around him.
After recieving a drum kit from his uncle at age 13, Kyle began playing along to groups like The Tragically Hip and Nirvana. He played percusion in his school band and began jamming with a friend who had taken up guitar.
By the time Kyle had reached high school he had inherited two Takamine guitars from his grandfather and been learning all of his favorite songs. It was during this time that Kyle began singing along to the songs he played, and had realized his true passion for performing.
His senior year was spent mostly in the cafeteria and the hallways of the school playing music and entertaining his peers. He began writting original lyrics to basic chord progressions and recieved positive feed back by his classmates. It was also at this time that he enrolled in vocal lessons once a week to begin developing his voice.
First Bands
During highschool Kyle started his first band consisting of two friends, Chad Simon and Mike McElheron, playing guitar and bass and himself on drums and vocals. They called themselves Recently Committed. Although the music itself was mostly Nirvana and Blink 182 covers, they did play a few originals.
Recently Committed was also the first time Kyle dealt with band promotion. The group recorded 12 songs and sold disks complete with album artwork and promotional photos, the disk was titled Jam Sessions: Vol. 1, and copies of the disk still remain with friends and family.
After his first band grew apart, Kyle was invited to be the vocalist for The Hell Of It. This group consisted of older musicians Josh Roles and Bryce Croncrite, as well as peers Chad Simon and Tyler Rolls who all attended the same school. Although Recently Committed had played school talent shows, The Hell Of It gained more recognition and a few paid gigs. The most memorable being entertainment for a Youth Conference.
Networking & Practice
Kyle Chamberlain graduated from high school in 2005 and began college the next fall. It was the summer before college that became one of the most influencial in his life.
Working for a small construction company in Brandon Kyle met Mike Sacharko, a musician who was the frontman of Vagrant City, a band that played often at The 40 (venue).
Kyle and Mike worked together over the summer of 2005 and became good friends. Mike's stage performances and local following made him a roll model and mentor to Kyle.
After beginning college Kyle became a regular patron of The 40 specifically to watch live bands. While most other patrons were interested in how the music was Kyle's focus was on how the bands interacted with the audience, and what made them popular among the crowds.
Although Kyle never played any live performances during his two years in college, he had made many new friends who were also musicians and held regualr jam sessions with his college mates.
During the summer between his college years Kyle and friends Rob Redahl (bass) and Riley McConnel (drums) birthed The Skin Tops, a band that played Kyle's original music and a few covers. Kyle played rhythem guitar and sang, but the band had a revolving door of lead guitarists. When college resumed the band broke-up due to time constraints and commitment issues.
Even though music was still a large part of Kyle's life, he spent very little time in a structured environment during his college years. He did however produce demos for two local bands while he was in college, and played guest guitar on a track by friend and classmate Rosylne Church.
The Big City
College graduation in 2007 promopted Kyle to move to Winnipeg, Manitoba's largest city center, where he would be able to begin his career as a media developer. Only a few weeks went by before Kyle was invited to become the lead vocalist for Blue Steele. A cover project that played bars in the Winnipeg area.
Kyle continues to perform with Blue Steele as well as handle most of the groups publicity. He has resumed working on his original music and is in the midst or recording his first album with producer Bill Todd of Dark Highway Recording.
